2011 Tuition Statements

The office has readied your 2011 statement which contains the amount of tuition that you paid to Escuelita in 2011. You will need this document to file your 2011 tax return. It also contains our tax identification number, required by the IRS on your return. Look for your statement in your child’s art cubby. The infants’ classrooms which do not have art cubbies will post the statements on the refrigerator door.

Monthly Dance Parties for Children

Esquina Tango, a local dance group which is located at 209 Pedernales St., will host monthly dance parties for kids and their families on Sunday, February 12^th, from 3-5 p.m. The children will learn steps, rhythms, create instruments and enjoy fun accessories that will culminate in a little “Carnaval Parade” down the streets. Costumes are encouraged! Note that kids will be separated into two groups to do activities (3-7 yrs. & 8-13 yrs.) The price is $5 per person or $12 per family. Children 18 months and younger are free.

To the Parents of 4-Year-Olds

It is necessary to remind all parents of 4 year old children (or soon to be 4) that the Texas Department of Health, through our licensing agency , the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services, now requires that they obtain a vision and hearing screening. This screening helps to detect potential hearing difficulties or eye sight problems, including strabismus (when eyes cross inward or outward). Medical research now shows that when presented with problems at a young age, children run the risk of enduring permanent hearing or eyesight loss if not addressed with corrective measures before they reach puberty. This screening must be repeated every other year, throughout the elementary school grades, in order to catch problems that might arise at any time after age 4.
Escuelita now contracts with UT’s Speech and Hearing Center to conduct the screenings at our facility for a nominal fee of $20. Their graduate students in the Speech and Communications department will be at Escuelita on March 21^st to screen all 4 year old students who sign up for the test. Soon we will provide you with the consent forms for the screenings. If your child has already been screened, or you plan to have your private physician conduct the exams, you must provide us with a copy of the test results by March 21st. Escuelita must report the results of the screenings to the Health Department for every 4 year old who is enrolled in our program.

Becker Pachanga!

You are cordially invited to attend Becker Elementary’s first annual pachanga dance party on February 10^th, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Grammy Award-winning, Adrian Quesada, of Grupo Fantasma and an Escuelita parent (Amelie-Rainbow Rm. & Marcelle-Green Rm.) will be at the turntable with dance tunes. You and your kids can enjoy face-painting, latin-inspired cuisine, Valentine’s Day crafts, Amy’s ice-cream, etc., at the event. Becker’s address is: 906 West Milton St.

Requesting Donations

Escuelita is requesting donations of old t-shirts and scrap printer paper, even if pre-printed on one side. The children use the t-shirts as painting smocks and scribble and draw on the paper. If you have either or work at a place that discards or recycles this type of paper, please ask them if they would be willing to donate it to Escuelita. We will gladly coordinate with them for the pick-up of the materials.

AISD Dual Language Programs

Question & Answer Session at Escuelita
Monday, February 13th—5 p.m.

With assistance of AISD’s personnel, Escuelita will host an informational meeting for all parents who are interested in enrolling their child in their two-way Pre-K or Kinder dual language program. The meeting will start at 5:00 p.m. upstairs, in the Rainbow Room. Escuelita will provide free childcare for those children whose parents register to attend the meeting. Please sign-up at the office for the meeting attendance. The deadline for submitting applications for the dual language program is April 27^th. If interested, you can pick-up an application at Escuelita’s office.
To assist with your preliminary dual-language program inquiries, we provide you with the names of the 9 elementary schools which are funded through AISD for the 2012-2013 school year.

Becker Elem.—between Barton Springs Rd. and Oltorf St.
Ridgetop Elem.—51^st St. & Airport Blvd.
Travis Heights Elem.—just west of IH-35 and north of Oltorf St.
Perez Elem.—southeast of IH-35

Maplewood Elementary (38 ½ St. & IH-35) has one kindergarten two-way dual-language classroom and is open only for students who reside within the school’s AISD paramenters.
Presently, Escuelita provides after school care and transportation from the following dual language elementary schools: Maplewood, Ridgetop and Becker.

Scholastic Book Orders

Time to stock up on books for the coming school year! The Scholastic site is getting better and better, check it out and see! Flyers have been enabled for all classes, and paper flyers will appear in your classrooms next week if you would like to pick some up. Age appropriate flyers have been enabled for each class, as well as an interactive flyer for the oldest kiddos.

Scholastic books, I’m sure we ALL remember them from our own childhood, are great because they are inexpensive and every purchase earns points towards free books for the school.

To order or browse, go to the link below, and create an account. Enter the activation code for your child’s class below. This will enable the books to be routed to the correct classroom on delivery. The orders you enter at the site will be “posted” together at the end of the month, and they will all arrive together.
